Heyya ... I know that getting a military rank helps out heaps in getting you access to upgrades, but is there much benefit once you get 4 or 5 promotions in a faction?

From what I know, military rank will further lower costs on planets in that faction. In addition they should raise the amount of money you get from that faction's contracts.

Rank provides a scale of bonuses - Exchange Bonus - Stardock Discounts - Stardock: Military Discounts - Protection Against Rep and Rank Loss - Increase Payment for Contracts - Increase Rep Bonus for Conflicts
One of the clearest and most useful bonuses is the cost of Torpedos. By Rank 16 they're almost free -- the Faction knows you're a good Captain and probably shoot the torp at the bad guys.

This is probably nuts: Torpedoes won't hit ships from their home faction. If you're taking out Cadar pirates, don't buy Cadar torpedoes.
"Captain, more Cadar space scum on the radar and all of our tubes are loaded with Cadar Blue 57 Torps!" "Damn the torpedos! Check the hold to see if we've got any Thulun Golds left! They're expensive, but they're our only hope!"

I've used Cadar torps on Cardar pirates and the pirates turn into little pieces of debris just like most others

Narvidian HK Torpedos are stolen dark ages technology specifically designed by the Narvidian Warlords to kill humans and wreck havok among Crew and Reactor cores.
It would be interesting to have something like that as a tactical choice, however. I'm thinking ...

Hmmm ... or your engineer officer might be able to modify torps using ancient artifacts to increase damage ...

The faction-based torps was an idea I had because I'm thinking a lot about how the ship is flagged and what mechanism that would be within the game world. I'm assuming it's some kind of space radio transponder.
