Don't know if this is a bug or not, but either way Id really like it changed. Whenever I carry contraband and I encounter a warship or bounty, they're alwayes hostile if I dont have a trade permit even if I have alot of rep and military rank. Plus sometimes they arent even in their own faction and therfor have no legal authority. So what happens is Im traveling around cadar with a permit, warrent and rank with cadar and get encountered with a thulun warship. The warship has no legal authority AND even though I dont have a permit I still have military rank and high rep and therfor should have "nothing to fear from a warship". But its hostile. And when I surrender I lose morale, and when I dont surrender, I lose a death warrent! Because I didnt surrender to a ship that had no legal authority!

Well, those ships carry Captains with Rank and Death Warrant, which is why they are labeled as they are.
In this case, the strategic response is to establish a Trade Permit with the hostile Faction.

Ah the complex politics of the Quadrant and its myriad laws, edicts, and factions!

But I have death warrent and rank also, so ithey shouldn't bug me. Plus death warrent/rank or not, they still have no legal authority if they arent in their faction space. Could you make it so that depending on the AI they aren't hostile if you aren't in their faction space, especially if you have rank/death warrent with them? And make it so you don't loose a death warrent by not surrendering to a ship that has no legal authority? And make it so you don't lose morale surrendering to a hostile military if you have rank and therfor nothing is taken? (You'd still lose morale if surrendering to military that caught you doing blockade/surveillance though)

Oh, the cruelty of the Trese Quadrant. Those heartless bastards, will they stop at nothing to force a captain to make hard decision after hard decision? It can't go on like this forever, can it? Something's got to change.....

+1. Good one BlastGT1!
Coorperations can't commit crimes as they have no souls. Apparently its the same thing for warships!

BlastGT1 - I have heard that before somewhere ... maybe in a spice hall. I always read that rumor to indicate "It's never going to change... the heartless world will simply carry on."

I should add another quote:
"We need to find a way to hold on or some way to let go."

So what about certain warships/bounties not being hostile when not in their faction space, especially when you have rank with them? Or not losing morale when surrendering to warships when you have rank as no negatie effects (wound, confiscation, rep loss) take place (this wouldn't apply when they catch you doing blockade/surveillance)? Is that a possibility?
