Sorry for so many theads in one day. I'm really in an ST mood today.
I got the alien vet, but I still don't notice a difference in terms of alien encounters when patrolling dead planets. I could be really unlucky, but I've been patrolling dead planets for a while now ad I haven't really found that much. Personallly, with the right strategy an the right technique, I think alien hunting can be a good (but risky) source of profit for certain captains. But right now its just too hard to find them. Some ideas:
- Increase the vet's alien encounter bonus for dead planet patrols. To balance it out, mabe you could lower his salvage value bonus for alien ships. - Have another officer also help for finding aliens for dead planet patrols, like the Templar - Add an upgrade that helps enourage succesful alien encounters for dead planet patrols (stacks with Vet) - Have the skills that help find merchants/smugglers during patrol play a role in finding aliens in dead planet patrols (stealth, tactics) - Add a dead planet (or two) that have more alien encounters than normal - Have an officer/upgrade negate/decrease combat penalties vs. Aliens with artifacts so its safe to carry them to increase your chance of finding aliens - Make a limit to how much alien attack power can increase (e.g. 200%) with artifacts in hold so if you carry artifacts to help you find aliens you don't need to worry about geting a terrox with lv 1045 - Increase the chance of receiving alien kill contracts with the Templar - Have another officer provide a chance of receiving alien kill contracts, like the vet, with the chance of receival stacking with the Templar - Increase chance of alien encounters for "alien attacks" rumor - Have a certain faction(s) more likely to give out alien kill contracts than others - Have a certain ship(s) provide more alien encounters than others - Make it so that changing your ship name to one identical to an alien ship increases alien encounters
Making alien hunting a new method of profit will please other players as well as me, as there are many others like me who love killing aliens, and have.said they wished for more aiens on this forum.

A limit to alien attack power increase with artifatcs and/or an officer/upgrade bonus to negate/reduce alien attack power increase with artifacts would also be good vs. hulks as it would allow you to encounter them without them having such a huge level.

I'm thinking the best dead planet which would have more aliens (and dreadful report of alien atacks rumors) than normal dead planets would be zeta reticuli, as it is actually rumored that aliens live in te zeta reticuli star system. Or a dead planet could be put into the hyperion demonic nebula, with a planet near it that has an urban zone to be able to refuel, repair and recruit. Also, I'm noicing that as time goes on, finding alien via dead planet patrol becomes harder and harder. Why is this?
And another idea: Xeno War New conflict: XENO WAR (faction v. aliens conflict) - Can be triggered with killing aliens (like solar wars can be triggered with doing contracts against a faction) - 5% as likely as solar wars/other conflicts - Increased alien encounters, especially in/near space of faction in the xeno war - Increased 'dreadful report of alien attacks' rumors, especially in/near space of faction in xeno war - Increased 'deadly rouge traders' or 'alien attacks' wilderness rumors (because templar/vet) especially in/near space of faction in xeno war - Alien kill contracts at military base w/out Templar - With Templar, alien kill contracts at miliary base of faction involved in xeno war significantly increase - Huge rep bonuses for destroying alien ships - 10,000 credit bonus of destroying aliens (via combat or spoils of victory) - Increased pirates, bounties and warships, especially over dead planets - Veteran/Templar notifies you when entering a planet of a faction involved in a xeno war

Noticed that there's a planet called "terrox" at the very bottom left of the map, and next to it is a dead planet. Terrox is also the name of the most powerful alien AI and ship. Maybe that planet and/or the dead planet next to it could have increased alien encounters.

Wait a sec. Are you smiling because you think that's a good idea, or are you smiling because that's already the case?

Wait a sec. Are you smiling because you think that's a good idea, or are you smiling because that's already the case? I believe the implication here is to go forth and find out!

I don't see that planet. Edit: Nevermind. Found it and its partner. Bottom right side of the quadrant.

These are some really excellent suggestions.
I'm especially fond of unlocks with awards, so I'll recommend the alien-finding gear be unlocked, plus a special alien-hunting (Templar?) ship--probably with said gear already upgraded (like the Picky Beggar has).
While you're doing an alien war event, why not make aliens one (or more) "hidden" factions, and then give captains that annoy them a doom mark that attracts whatever is the equivalent to alien bounty hunter ships.
I suppose that would be the Predators, no? Come to think of it, said mark would likely make exploring more dangerous to captain and crew, as well....
