How do I change difficulty?

I've just started playing and i want to move my captain from normal to a more difficult setting. How do i do this in an existing game?

No can do in an existing game, you must start a new captain.

To get to Impossible you'll have to get through Demanding

Impossible... imagine my surprise during the first delivery from Dad to the faction, and finding out it was worth, exactly, 0 dollars. It took about 7 or 8 various false starts to get beyond the first mission .... and then, when I did, with an explorer getting a few dollars under the table just to be able to afford water after the first contract, who knew just how VIOLENT the pirates of factions with anything under 10 to 20 rep were going to be? Not to mention the 7, SEVEN, concurrent TRADE EMBARGOS going on all at the same time.

Welp, tried again, and with a different starting ship, and EVERY effort to not only avoid pissing someone off, but also actively trying to be everyone's favorite smuggler... and here I am, lvl 21, a Paragon of Smuggling at 150.23 AE.

It's doable, but like a Mayan armageddon- everything's gotta line up pretty good to make it happen. It IS massively exciting though, let me tell you.
