hi, i cant comment on the blog, so i thought i would put it up here. right now i'm a cadar synd military official flying around in a warhammer ship.
my standard combat tactic is to rush in and board. as such, my torpedo and guns are typically not repaired (seriously). good of this is that destroying the ship gives me more $. bad is that i'm heavily dependent on weapons in cargo.
does anyone have other suggestions on ships? btw, i'm playing free, not elite.

interesting. i usually use a blend myself.
having lots of weapons in the cargo attracts a lot of negative attention, as does ship destruction.
I love to hear which difficulty -- free just has a smaller map and ships -- the game play is the same =)

Close, take out engines, take all cargo, enslave, destroy.
This leaves crew and cargo intact and normally leaves your ship undamaged as well.

It seems as though you don't take much of a faction hit against a faction with whom you have military ranks. So as a military officer, or any class really, you could go around early game and do a couple easy missions for each faction. This usually gives you the ability to start getting promoted. Once you're 3 - 5 levels promoted in each faction, you can pretty much ensure that you're not going to go negative with them.
However, if you pirate, enslave and destroy every ship you meet, you will eventually erode your own faction and you start losing your warrants. I haven't actually seen any lost military levels, but the faction points do diminish.
