HateSolstice - Star Traders was our first game, stand-alone engine. The lessons we learned from ST we used to build the Storyteller engine as we call it, on top of which we built Cyber Knights, Templar Assault, and Age of Pirates. For Heroes of Steel, because of the Epic Platform stretch goal, we had to achieve iOS and Android, and had learned from the porting experience with iST that you want to do it in one code base. So we switched platforms to an open source engine, Cocos 2DX, and then built Storyteller V2 on top of it. Future games will be built on top of Storyteller V2.

fallen - Hm. Well, I can't wait to see how HoS will turn out. From what I've seen and heard so far, it should be pretty awesome. I assume the new engine allows for capabilities not possible before? And, if that is the case, do you guys plan on overhauling the older games to the new platform, or are you just going to leave them alone? Damn my curiosity.

pssst HateSolstice I'll let you in on a little secret, but don't tell anyone. HoS is looking f***ing awesome !!! Alpha plays smooth & looks very polished. It's a joy to play the game, looks as good as some games do at release so It'll just get better as it's fine tuned & adjusted. You won't be disappointed, you'll have a fantastic time once its released. As a backer this was more than worth what I pledged for the kickstarter.

captain nemo - I wish I could afford to back them. I just have too much going on right now in my life that, sadly, takes up a lot of my finances. That just means I'll have to buy the game on launch. Twice.

Haha one buy should be enough! That said, you'll really want to grab this one on release. It's been a pretty amazingly fun Alpha, and we are basically just re-running one unique map over and over again. I'm on my 4th play through, and I've used different tactics and builds each time!

Just wanted to report that the download works fine for me. I tried both the URL and the drive download. Very nice work! Lovely to get to the office on a Saturday (bleh!) and see some HoS stuff in my inbox. Emails from Andrew are always welcome!

Okay, my phone was the culprit here. DAMN Andrew your work is growing by leaps and bounds now man. You have a much better handle on anatomy now. Hands are still an issue but I wouldn't sweat that too much. When you look at them and how they work they are highly complicated sets of structures that can make a variety of shapes. Don't be afraid to go to references. I know I'm not. I can't help but chuckle at the cleric partly because the robe reminds me of the white wizards from Final Fantasy. But the guy wearing it reminds me of one of the rough, tough bikers I knew growing up. Its just an unlikely and ridiculously funny coincidence.

What's the price for Alpha-Access again? Can we still, actually?
Sent from Bravestar Control Center, Boston Core. Causing Havoc and Chaos in the NBZ since its beginning.

Thanks all! dayan - definitely using references constantly, and just grinding for results! Jacob - the reward is $100. At this point, I don't think we'd encourage new comers to join the alpha team as we are past the half way point definitely.

I think the ability to draw hands is what defines a good 2D artist from a great 2D artist. I came up with that thought back in 1994 when I went to an exposition of local art. The husband, it was a duo man and wife, concentrated in shapes and forms. He had a gorgeous piece of interlocking gloss wood vines, letters, and shapes that was inspiring. Most of his work was top notch. The wife painted people and scenes with people. As I looked at the art, she had a great grasp of features, but I noticed -all- her work hid the hands. She embarrassingly admitted she couldn't do hands well. I felt very awkward for asking but I knew that, when she mastered hands, she was going to be extremely good. SO that's the 'bar'. When you master hands, Andrew, you'll be among the great few. Keep it up! rabid
