So I've got a leviathan cannon, but it has range 0 and when I attempt to use it against any creature, even one next to me, it says 'out of range!'. What am I doing wrong?

That's terrible. Very sorry. Looks like that weapon is bugged in the current release.
I'll put out an update tonight that restores the damage and range. Looks like it was taken out by a data bug related to the new Shield items.
