In adition to being able to zoom in/out of the map at will, can there be an option of seeing the entire map like in ST? So you can see where all your charecters are in relation to the map and where all the visable aliens are, rather than constantly scrolling back and forth

I find myself in flick, scroll, fling repeat scenario often. this would be great for my small (lg optimus) screen.

I'm not sure what you mean "like in ST"
Star Traders RPG doesn't have an option to see the entire map, it has a fixed zoom out.
TA does have a lot more zoom settings (ST has 2.)
Are you asking for more "zoom out" levels?

It would be nice see the entire map at once, whether its with a "see all" option in the options, or more zoom out capability. However, with a "see all" option, you don't need to re-zoom once you're finished, nor do you need to scroll back.

If you haven't already discovered this, you can get a full map - go into the menu and choose "Briefing" ... there is almost always a full map view in the briefing.

On the other end of the spectrum... any thought given to levels where the map is not known until you explore it?
If docking with an unfamiliar ship/fortress would the knights know where all the passages are?
Not a big deal, but would add an extra dimensions n

I dunno. Yes, it probably isn't for this thread, but it actually sounds like quite a good idea that we shouldn't discount. Having an option for harder difficulties to black out the map until explored by your squad. Modifiers include 1) If you have already done the map in a previous level (but within the same campaign), then the areas of the map you have explored remain explored. 2) If, as part of your briefing, you get good recon intel. For example, you should/would know the layout of the ship you are boarding, but you may not know the breach points or the modifications made. The briefing map is generic (no spawn points shown), but does show ingress and egress points. 3) If you have had a Templar scout team go through in advance to provide some info. maybe not a fully mapped level, but the key path has been re-conned.
Having the map be hidden can provide an excellent new mission type. We are planning on sending a strike force into [insert evil base name here], and need your squad to map out the basic layout so our team knows what to expect. Your job is to identify where the main lift-shaft is that will take you to the lower levels. Also, as secondary objectives, identify the source of the Xeno breach. Our sensors are detecting that they are coming from at least 3 places, but without a layout, we don't know if they are a threat or not.
