this game is awesome in many ways but its so hard which isn't a bad thing there is so many easy games out there on the app store and Google play infact I got my nfir thew phone as an android just so I could play this game haha then it gets relesed on ios which is great but back to the game, I must be doing something wrong because I barely make it to lvl 5 before a ship gets a lucky hit on me then I eject using the escape shuttle then I don't have much money so I have to use the shuttle till it gets destroyed which isn't very long
note I usually play on challenging or demanding for the achievements and I like the infini death because I played on normal and it was far too easy

It goes against the grain initially, but you need to learn to Surrender.
In the early part of the game you need to decide if you're going to make your money by exploring or by contracting. For contracting you need to buy a Smuggler's Hold upgrade or start with the Tempus Fugit (you need to earn that one with an award though), and then when you're doing delivery contracts of passengers and packages, you can surrender to military patrols without having them confiscated.
When you run into pirates, if you don't want to lose what's in your cargo hold, you should enter Battle and immediately try to Retreat. Most of time they're not looking for a fight either (these are when the contact event doesn't say something like they've "turned around their Prow, and are preparing to attack"). If you know they are attacking, and have a faster ship than yours or are higher level, maybe you really should just Surrender from the Battle screen and let them loot your water fuel - they usually don't take ALL of it.

It's funny when I'm heading to a planet and all I have is water I go to the planet hit the mother lode and I had 60 artifacts coming back I was found by a pirate who was better than me with engines and guns so I boarded and won so I had 20 or so crew left I was 1 au from home then I saw the alien... it was the super powerful one, and I had 60 artifacts I tried to run, I got killed rather quickly

If you get jumped by an alien in any situation when you're under level 5, that's really unlucky, really messed up, or both!

I was lvl 3 when that happened, I read it like 5 times because I didn't believe it haha it was a lvl 15 to so really really bad luck there wish I thought to get a screen shot

Artifacts are a beacon for aliens, FYI.
Keep playing and you will love this game. Just remember to SLOWLY build up each difficulty so you can perfect your playstyle... I have my very first "successful" crazy captain, because I learned how to handle his playstyle up through the last three difficulties, where the learning curve didn't kill me right away. Maybe you could try it this way and see how you fair.

Yah I know about the artifacts but on lvl 3 haha and I already love the game but the learning curve is a mountain compared to farmville
