Noticed in 3.4.7 you could buy rumors for the first time. Cool idea but I found the rumors weren't any better than if you just listened to them.
Also, I noticed that the amount of credits you have remain the same after you choose the "Buy Rumor" option.

Yeah I don't understand this feature either. I thought that after the last free rumour was heard, the Next Rumour button would grey out, but the Buy Rumour button would remain active. But they both grey out at the same time. So I'm not sure how to use this feature - is it fully implemented yet?
Is the intention that some scurvy spacedog might whisper "I've heard a rumour about a shortage of goods / escorted fleet / radiation storm / etc, but it'll cost ye a pile of credits to get the details"?

I can't really speak to the money part (whether you get charged or not), but I think in another forum they said that buy rumor only works if there are available rumors in your area. The planet you're on affects the range within which rumors will be detected - I think it might be the spice hall rating(?). Other factors can also affect it.
So when you choose to buy a rumor, you,re paying to get any available rumors within range. If there aren't any, then you just paid someone for a regular informational rumor (except maybe you didn't really pay).

Cool idea but I found the rumors weren't any better tha you just listened to them yes its true...an idea could be to buy different types of rumors,or only different rumor prices corrensponding to different rumor values...^^ it can seems too easy, but its true that a poor barboun knows less respect to a house member or a decorated soldier...^^

Buy Rumor:
+ Always Available When Rumors Are Available + Each Buy/Random Consumes 1 Available Rumor + Spice Hall and Palace Have Different Available Rumors + Spice Hall Rating Determines Rumor Range + Palace Security Rating Determines Rumor Range + Buy Rumor ALWAYS returns a Rumor (not Flavor Text) if one is in Range + Buy Rumor ONLY takes Credits when Rumor is in Range + Spy Warns When No Rumors in Range + When No Rumors in Range, Buy Rumor same as Random Rumor (Flavor Text + $0)

Thanks for the explanation Cory. I'm still not clear on whether there is any situation where Buy Rumour will produce a useful Rumour, whereas Next Rumour would not. Buy Rumour avoids you paying for a flavour text - but with Next Rumour, you never pay (flavour text or not flavour text), and you might get a useful rumour (non flavour text) - always for free. So the advantage of Buy Rumour needs to be, not that you won't ever pay for flavour text, but that you will sometimes get a real, useful rumour when otherwise (with Next Rumour) you would've only gotten flavour text. Is that the case?

So you don't pay when the rumor is just flavor? Sweet. If you get just one 'artifact shortage' rumor that you can act on, you've probably paid for all of the rumors you've bought.

Buy Rumor Always Gives You A Good Rumor (If One Exists and is in Range)
Otherwise, It Gives You Flavor Text.
If You Get a Good Rumor From Buy Rumor the Spice Hall needs $100 to cover the tab.

Hmm, this may not yet be working as designed. I did 20 Buy Rumour hits in one Spice Hall, it cost me $2000 (20 x $100), and none of the rumours named concrete events at specific places, just general strategy hints and requests to pass the spice plate. I guess that is all considered 'flavour text'?

if it gives you one flavor text ... the spice hall is exhausted.
actually, that's the other advantage. the $100 question "do these clowns know anything?"

Correct.
Captain buys a round and the spacers tell him some junk ... he stops buying rounds.
I often use Buy Rumor to see if they have anything good to say and then I use Next Rumor to just listen in and see what else is up.

Do rumors eat up time? Shady McGurk (going for Dark Nemesis) wishes they did...
Also, why are you chatting in a bar when you've got contracts counting down?

It just seemed crazy to burn a week getting the "don't forget to brush your teeth" tips.

Yeah, but getting the good information might be worth the time. Maybe some classes would get rumors faster or base it on Negotiation. It's not just better rumors if you're a merchant, it's better rumors faster because you know who to talk to and they know you're money's good. Who is going to talk to a Military Officer or a Bounty Hunter? It takes time to beat information out of scum at the spice hall.
