The 'Mercer explained the situation to me already' conversation option sticks around, even after the 'You've got a big smile on, Luka' option shows up.
Actually, it should never have shown up at all. I talked to Luka before talking to Mercer when I found out they wanted to see me. This is a repackaging of 'I will always be a commodity to this woman'. So since I have seen this one, which ends with me promising to talk to Mercer as soon as she hangs up, I shouldn't get this button at all. This button is for people who have talked to Mercer first, and then talk to Luka.
If this report makes sense.

I also had a conceptual problem with the ending -- I was playing on Easy mode, and both I and my teammate died during the final encounter of the tutorial. Because of the order of deaths, my teammate didn't ressurect when I did, and the combat trainer dude was no longer at the coffin motel.
At this point, my phone conversations became VERY incoherent, even after I figured out how to get to the NBZ, and then received a bunch of messages from Luka that I clearly should have recieved while still underground.

When you get to the NBZ there is still more than half of the tutorial to do -- assuming you pick 'stick with Mars'. Let us know if you need any help with it. And if I understand you correctly, you are reporting that dying while hunting Shady's gang is (still) not working properly? Sigh. Sorry about that. Have I understood you properly? |

~blink~ There's more to the tutorial after you get up to the NBZ? Because I've played over 30 hours since then without triggering anything from them....

Occasionally, I met with Moxa, and she asks if I want to cross the wall.
I am not sure what SHOULD happen when dying while hunting Shady's gang, but I'm pretty sure that this wasn't it.

Go back to the backroom and tell Moxa that you are ready to cross the wall. (assuming you are, of course).
