Typically when exploring a planet, I get hit for 1 damage per exploration. I usually stop exploring around 5/10 hp. I explored 1 more time at 5/10 and died.
Discouning the unusualness of take 5 damage on a 4/10 danger planet, is there any way to show numerically the amount of damage you take as well so I don't have to keep.going to my satus after every explore to see what my health is at? Or would that be too "mathy" and not fitting in with the text adventure theme of this game?

you should never suffer that many wounds in one exploration no matter how bad.
that is a bug for sure and it is now on the list. this might be related to another forum post about "Crew = 0 following Explorer caused death"
I like the idea, will work on it. next update to explorer UI is already done and is being tested now.
shows danger graphic (number of skulls) as well as, if you have Explo skills, the remaining "richness" of the planet (number of bundles)

fixed and tested, no worst case only captain survives and he takes a wound.
multiple wounds are now only possible during Aliens

The ability to gauge the richness/chance of loot vs the chance of harm would be excellent...

I believe planets have danger and loot ratings already.

havocme is correct -- the ratings are there and the player can use them compared to Explorer and a few other Wisdom related skills to gauge danger.
Repeated exploration of the same planet quickly depletes the resources.
Use a series of planets whenever possible.

So basically if a planet's danger rating is significantly higher than my captain's wisdom or explorer skill, I should stay away. I wondered what the Resource Cache rating really meant. If it is low, does that mean I may not find my cache if I later return for it? Or does it mean my crew could get hurt retrieving it? So far I have never seen any reports of injury while placing Caches.

Cache rating is a resistance vs. Treasure Hunter Rumors.
The two things that keep a Cache Safe:
Be as far away from Green Sectors (occupied territory) as possible.
Use a high Cache Rating.
