Would love to see a stand alone app that would let me create a basic storyline and save it to a file that I could then send to Cory and Andrew for possible use as future CK story mode.
While I could just write up a text document and send it to them, an app would allow for something much more friendly to the game designers to implement. I.E. these NPCs are already in game and available for use, these locations are available to be utilized like so. Flags marking the conversations and what will be plot choices.
Other games in past have had success with user generated levels/episodes and I think there are some very talented people around here that could help create some great stories for us all while hopefully taking a little pressure off our favorite brothers.
Just don't let Grävling write one or she'll kill us all for sure. ;D

Just don't let Grävling write one or she'll kill us all for sure. ;D Hah! That's what would happen if you let me hack the _combat system_ ;D I don't think that I would kill you with stories. I used to spend a lot of my time modding Infinity Engine (Baldur's Gate and friends) games. It was nice to be able to play other people's stories, and takes on popular prominent characters. I think it would be fun to do again.

Awsome. Reminds me of Infamous.

It'd definitely be cool. Is a story app gonna compromise Trese Bros. Intellectual property? Or yours for that matter? What about time debugging and updating? Cory mentioned we prioritize wishes. To help with memory savegame space.
Honestly, at this point I'm not keen on anyone but Cory working with game engine. Certainly, I've used mods in past (morrowind) (Sims) they all are big memory hogs. Not to mention I'm paranoid about viruses.

@missionhill what I was suggesting wasn't a direct game plug in for fan created stories. Instead I was suggesting an app that would allow fans to create an easily reviewable file with markers that Cory and Andrew could review and then implement at some point. Not to take anything away from the brothers but they have to be stretched pretty thin on creativity with 3 games currently published and constantly updated and aHoS coming in the near future. MnB was a very nice addition to CK and would love to see more "Story Mode" settings, just not sure that the sock puppets can feed that desire any time soon without compromising other vital efforts.

xdesperado ok, sounds like it wouldn't hurt. Hard for me to visualize it but I trust your instincts. Aren't most if not all of these games.. originally pen and paper games Trese Bros created as teens? From what I know of them... they seem to have no prob w it h churning out the creativity. But I'm sure they love to collaborate (HoS kickstarter rewards) I guess it's a matter of timing. You prolly get Story App. However I have no idea how long it takes to code one. It's low priority, my guess.

The reason we're not already doing this is that the tools we use a home-grown, very complex and completely undocumented.
I too would love to see more story modes completed. I think one thing that's really exciting about building Heroes is that the STE tools will have to get much better and provide better ability to build CK and TA content!

Will the STE improvements likely enable mods?

Depends a lot on how far the project takes STE. Better tools means faster development, more releases and more potential for future projects and collaboration.

All that sounds excellent. Is getting better tools just a matter of programming them yourselves, or can you buy them off the shelf?
