I would have posted this under the main thread to get some perspective, but my understanding is that the iOS version is pretty different until it catches up.
That said, I enjoy the game, but it gets... monotonous? Even at the hard levels. I'll definitely try some different combos, but the playing can be broken down into the following steps at any level (currently playing Impossible):
- Choose any faction, any ship, any profession, depending on mood.
- Go to the first planet and complete first mission.
- If you chose a profession with some goods, you can sell them (if Zealot) to get fuel.
- Take a mission within 4 AU to get some quick cash.
- Get some water fuel, spend your xp on exploration, go to either the benign (3) planet in the west near De Valtos, or the clan Javat planet with (4)
- If you don't have a trade permit, harvest for records, then sell to get your rep up
- Once you get a trade permit, switch to explore and get artifacts, weapons, and electronics.
- Once you get enough money, go buy a spear class ship at Roavan (or whatever that planet is called in the far south)
- You're now mid-game and fostering relations with everyone is boring. Go kill a bunch of people, complete missions, whatever. There's not much to do.
I think I find the struggle at the beginning to be more satisfying than anything else because the mid-game is tedious. Maybe I'm missing something? I do really like the game, though, and it's currently the only thing I'm playing.
