Bit of a problem I'm having, is when I complete a mission against a faction I lose rep points regardless if I was caught or not. In my opinion, this defeats the purpose of stealth, if you lose points anyway :/. Luckily I can just explore planets, and get to 100+ w/ every faction and 1,000,000+ cash money. > EDIT:Dear lord, my grammar was horrendous. Fixed.

In the future, cory is planning on making some contract types that don't cause rep loss (contracts that don't hurt other factions).
There are plenty of ways to get rid of negative rep. Buying pardons is the most common, but it's best to buy them early as the lower your rep, the more expensive the pardon.

I generally do this, but wouldn't it make sense for contracts to not hurt your reputation with a faction unless they actively caught you with the contract?

Yeah I don't know cory's logic behind that.

You could just take advantage of whatever solar/trade/spy war, trade alliance, alliance, etc. happens to be taking place at the moment. I've got a game on impossible where De Valtos was at -200 and though a spy war against steel song and a trade alliance with House of Thulin, I got it down to -20. I'd make nice and ask for a pardon, but where's the fun in that??

The centralized oversight of the Star Trader's Senate, and the pervasive nature of the surveillance state (especially in matters of commerce) is a central tenant of the entire game universe, the rules and the mathematical balance of the game.
I'm happy to say it isn't going anywhere. It will stay in ST, it's too central to the game IMO to ever change.
However, future trader games by TB may have a different take on the Factions in the setting.

No complaints here. I actually like how for contracts, you gain rep and credits with one faction and in return lose rep with another faction. Its part of the ST balance. Id be upset if that was changed. However, I wouldn't mind if certain future contract types didn't always hurt a faction/planet and therefor didn't always result in rep loss, if not for ST1 then maybe ST2. Like maybe deliver military or humanitarian aid or help fend off pirates or whatever. But I'll be happy either way.
Also, negotiate helps decrease reputation loss. It might play a role in decreasing the rep loss, if not for the actual contract completion then perhaps for actions taken to complete the contract, like surveillance, blockade, attacking ships etc.
