Well, I'll say I love the mechanics and how the game is made by far. For me as a Smuggler (I love the idea to get cargo and sell it undetected) but can hardly get past lvl 6. This forum is quite weird and hard to find any threads or guides so if there is any Smugglers pure guide, please link me.
As for me problem, is their any storyline or "characters" in this universe? I find the depth to be good but I can't feel to attached to it myself without something like this. For me as how I see it, is I just do meaningless missions to "smuggle" cargo and people to locations without a story to it etc.... Am I missing something here? I just love the idea of the game but this is missing it for me.
As what I love so far, Cadar is my faction (Haters gunna potate) and the Smugglers class. It's quite well thought out and able to hide cache on worlds and leave it there till you sell it.
Any guides for new players along with Smugglers guide would be amazing. (Already read Smugglers-explorers guide but was very lacking for me)
Thanks for a great game so far!

Illides, welcome to the forum and welcome to Star Traders. I've got a few thoughts. If you share what difficulty level you're playing on and what you seem to die from the most I might be able to help even more. As for the storyline thing, that's just part of Star Traders. It's typical "sandbox" play or you could call it "make your own adventure." You're primarily responsible for what your character becomes and does and to a degree you have to make up your own story. The faction conflicts will tend to drive your story in different directions as will encounters with aliens or particularly nasty pirates. ST was Trese Brothers first game and I think that it more or less evolved out of a pen an paper RPG they had made. There has been much talk about eventually creating ST2 and that may include more personal story elements to it. Different players find different ultimate stories to drive them. Such as a strong loathing for a particular faction and trying to sink your rep with them as far as possible, or alien hunting, or getting to the highest level (so far I've heard of someone making it to lvl 715 on impossible). Getting all the unlocks is also a challenge, as is mastering a particular style of gameplay like smuggler, or merchant. As for dying, again welcome to Star Traders. The one constant in the Quadrant is that everybody dies! Avoiding that as long as possible is perhaps the only real ultimate story (perhaps ST is too realistic?). One thing to think about is that every character is going to have a "getting established" phase. You really can't just go out and do whatever you want, you have to make friends, level up and upgrade your ship or get a better one. As a new player that might take you to level 10 or 15. At some point you'll find you can take down almost any ship in combat and then you can begin doing what you really want to do. Until then, seriously consider whether it is worth fighting, what do you have to lose (contract? expensive cargo?) and do you have money to make repairs and a place to get those repairs quickly. If not surrender. It's a hard button to hit, but you will eventually live long enough to take revenge. Did you you read johndramey's guide to getting started? startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tips&action=display&thread=3968It relies on exploring, but by following it you should be able to get started and get familiar enough with the game so that later on you can try other strategies for getting started. I'll say though, that my getting established phase is almost always the same for any captain type. Do (non-bounty/capture) contracts waiting for good trade rumors, buy pardons, pay very careful attention to faction politics, only fight people you're sure you can beat, surrender when necessary, don't carry contraband. Hope that helps a little.

Great reply and thanks! I have read his thread two or three times. I'll just have to work at it I guess but can't complain to much yet as my highest was lvl 11 last night. As well, is there a thread on how to get the Rapid Rank 2 within time? I was so close last night on like my 5 attempt and got to 64.39 after I was promoted to Rank 6. Got quite pissed off.... Lol

@iilides - welcome to the forum! There is a lot of wisdom here on how to master a pretty difficulty game. Keep after it. Hope you will leave us a review on the market if you enjoy Star Traders!
