This is mainly fluff rather than feature... but would be nice if individual knights could earn "promotions".
Initial Templar start out as Ensigns perhaps after 10 battles and 20 kills valid for promotion to Lieutenant.
After 20 starts and 50 kills can achieve rank of commander.
After 30 starts and 100 kills can be promoted to captain and can lead missions.
Soldiers that start out as captains could be promoted to ranks such as commodore and Admiral.
Perhaps having a Commodore or Admiral on your squad could unlock more powerful weapons.

I actually already do this, built just by adding a prefix in front of my soldiers' names. If there were some in game system for it that would be awesome though.

bobsoup - love the idea! We had already been working on this and have some of the "badge" artwork already done! I officially added this as #TA-1179 and you will definitely see it in Templar Assault sometime not too far away! Attachments:

Absolutely awesome! I love the badge. Would there be anyway to have them be linked to some kind of battlefield achievement? For instance, killing x amount of xenos in a mission results in a combat badge, being wounded x amount results in a purple heart and so on? Would be kind of a fun way to keep track of your templar's individual careers.

johndramey - that was our intention. Some badges you could get by doing something legendary in a single battle (survived with 2 HP) and others would be long-term achievements (killed 100 at range = Marksman 2). So it doesn't exactly fit a linear promotion, but we thought it would be more exciting to pile up a set of badges over time that help track you. One of them would likely work like a promotion (Marksman I => Marksman II => Chief Marksman, etc) while the other would be more "event driven."

Heehee, Vasquez, my chief Neptune specialist is sporting 2423 kills in 124 battles. I'm a little disappointed she slipped below 20 kills per mission, but recently, she's been training up some newbie Neptunes, and so had to share the fun with others.

Like the idea of giving Awards/Badges to individual Templars. Possibly promoting them in game to officer ranks could be interesting as well, though unless it opened up new weapons, armor and special abilities, it would be mostly a role play thing. Do think that the Hydra needs to start getting credit for their kills, especially if your going to start giving awards based on kills. Even though it doesn't show on their stats currently my Hydra Specialists are some of my most devistating and lethal Templars. Personally I find them much more effective and useful than Neptunes, but since they don't get credit for the majority of their kills it doesn't show in their stats.

Very cool.
Yeah... I sometimes take extra risks with my hydra... make him go forward and attack with fists... just so he doesn't feel left out on the kill count... lol.

I'm excited to hear that, fallen! Would badges be visible on some menu? Maybe, for instance, letting the player click on a soldier's portrait and bringing up a stats page with kills/missions/time in mission/badges or the like?

johndramey - yes, probably as we wouldn't want to clutter the main squad control too much.

fallenDepends - for the "hunker down for x turns" missions, I use my captain + 3x Neptunes. The strength of the Neptunes being able to shoot multiple Xeno's per AP is invaluable when you are trying to stop Xeno's from swarming your location. For missions where you need to get from A to B or checkpoints throughout a map, I have captain + 3x Scouts. Why scouts over the standard soldier? Because the scout gives me +1AP bonus AND you can get armor that offers +1AP for scouts only. Net result, scouts that can either move up to 8squares per turn, OR can shoot 7 times if he or she is being swarmed. I'd definitely like awards and rewards for the knights, and having something that provides more ammo (above the 50% ammo kit) would be invaluable for my scouts. Vasquez would like to be able to go lone wolf from time to time (yes, I want the ability to leave the captain out of missions from time to time)

slayernz - thanks for the extra info! We have a ticket in to provide some higher Honor war gear that would boost ammo past 50% and provide other major bonuses, so we will get there. Interesting about leaving the captain behind, that's definitely a request of a major veteran. Perhaps something to add eventually if your squad piles up enough awards.
