I have never seen a Carnifex Cruiser for sale (or in combat) in the year+ that I've had this game. Does anyone have any ideas as to where a good place to find one might be?

I'm in the same boat as you, I've never seen one. I don't shop a lot at Cadar Prime maybe they're only available there. One of the best unknown starports is on Xenox. You might try looking there to find it.

No Carnifex, but I did find a ship I hadn't noticed before (On a distant Steel Song world), a Battle Frigate.
Hull: 32 Armor: 16 Engines: 33 (Medium Agility) Sails: 38 (Medium Speed) Crew: 180 Hold: 110 Guns: 40 Torps: 16
The 60 extra crew is perfect for what I'm doing at the moment, though the Slayernz Cruiser still seems like the best all-around vessel out there.

try syndacate prime of rich planets located on the bottom right of map. high rank and rep also makes for better ships offered by faction

After a year of never seeing one of these things I stumbled onto one on Rychart Prime, just a day after posting this. Crazy.

Were you at high rank/rep with Rychart (as you should always be)? and what year was it around? I know certain ships don't appear until later.

4-500 rep, rank 12 or so. Year is about 350...ish. Thing is, every other faction is at 1000-2000+ rep and with higher rank. I always figured I'd find it on a Steel Song world (as I seem to find that sort of vessel on those worlds more than half the time).

Apparently I haven't been as good this year as laughing man.

I don't really get the fuss about the Carnifex Cruiser... I got one to try out, but even with upgrades it's pretty darn slow. I had trouble fleeing from battle, and at level ~27, got repeatedly rammed by some level 4 dude. Had to pay over $50,000 creds in repairs after killing the bastard, and that got me pretty pissed. Not to mention the crazy fuel usage (3 in green, 7 in red) on Insane diff...
Had to literally scour the auctions in the entire galaxy, but I'm now happily operating a Slayernz Cruiser. Thanks slayernz! (I assume you had something to do with the existence of this ship)

I did eventually find one, but I don't think I flew it much till I was at level 50 or so. Having high pilot and decent intimidate helps with the water fuel and also with the ramming thing. I think, that what's good about it is that it is the biggest large crew ship that is medium/medium on speed/agility. A lot of the other big crew ships are low or slow, and if you put a Battleship Architecture upgrade on a Slayernz Cruiser you'll find the fuel consumption actually goes up higher than a Carnifex because it is fast. So the Carnifex is the right balance for a specific strategy (patrolling dead planets for aliens and boarding them) but not really the best for everything. Though starfixer might wish to differ.

athios, I was pleased as punch when I got a ship named after me - but I've never seen one and from the specs I read, it probably wouldn't suit my playing style. One of my favorite ships is still the DeValtos Flagship. It's got a huge hold, great engines and sails, can handle firefights against most things that come up against it. What's even better is that I always know where to find one <grin>.

slayernz I know why you haven't found one. I've found almost every one of my Slayernz Cruisers at Xenox, the Steel Song planet on the top-rightish. Maybe it's a cruel joke played on you by the Brothers T. I just named my newest one Hillary.

Ye Gadds. I hope that at least it was a Cadar flagged ship and you encountered it because it was blockading Xenox?
