So there are the new alien and space hive awards that are slated for unlocks eventually. I don't know if Cory and Andrew have ideas for those already but here are a few I had.
Xeno Lab or Xeno Tracking Array ship upgrade: Installing this on your ship would increase your chances of finding aliens.
Narvidian Sensor Kit ship upgrade: This would allow the captain to find hives as well as aliens by patrolling.
Xeno Hunter captain type: I don't know all of the skills he would have, but a big one would be that he would occasionally get bounty contracts on aliens, it would be nice if he would know ahead of time so he could accept/reject such offers, but if they just show up that would be ok too.
Hydrogen-Oxygen Recombinator- Reduced fuel consumption over dead planets to make patrolling for aliens easier.
New officer, the Jinx: Swaps fuel and morale effects of faction & non-faction sectors; increases risk of accidents, pirates, and aliens.
Cloak: Greatly reduced chance of encountering aliens
Access to an alien starter ship; because alien ships just look cool.
Ideas for Xeno Hunter: Warrior + Pilot ; Increased chance of kill contract v. alien Increased duration and effect of alien 'kill streak' Morale bonus for killing aliens increased effect of entertainers (positive and negative) no morale boost from non-alien contracts Large bonus to boarding/duel with 1 crew

I was thinking more of a Xeno Hunter profession not officer since templar and xeno vet officers already have considerable alien bonuses. I would like to see the templars alien bounty contract frequency increased. I have yet to hear of anyone ever getting such a contract.
I'm in favor of new upgrades and even a new profession being unlocked upon completing the alien awards. Ive had several ideas for alien upgrades in the past, including enhanced leviathan upgrades for board v. aliens, a special reactors upgrade that would help significantly for combat v aliens but would be less effective than normal vs non-aliens and an alien array to help avoid aliens for deep-space travel and increase aliens for dead planet patrols.
Also, he gave me an idea. What about one the awards unlocking a speical ability of the xeno vet, like the mutiny ability of the first mate or the contract ability of the exo-scout?
