In ST, you can either set the game to auto-resume after an encounter, or not. Advantage of stopping auto-resume is that if you have taken damage, or filled up on a particular cargo (due to looting), then you can change to a different destination. Biggest disadvantage of stopping auto-resume is that if you have just selected a destination sector but not made it a waypoint, then you have to re-select that sector over and over again after every encounter.
Advantage of auto-resume is that if you are trying to get to a far away waypoint, it's a lot easier than having to re-set the way point Biggest disadvantage of auto-resume is that again, if you have damage, suddenly realized you are running low on fuel, or have any other reason to stop, trying to get to the pause button fast enough is sometimes tricky. Also, even pressing the back button on the phone results in the "Do you want to quit" prompt but doesn't stop your autopilot from moving in the background!
So ... request is either one of the following, or both: For "Stop auto resume", have a play button where the pause button was, so you can resume your trip under your own terms; AND/OR For "auto resume", a single press anywhere on the star map pauses your auto pilot. You are still able to auto resume if you momentarily pause your travel.

Agree! Would definitely cut down on the "oh shit forgot water-fuel" moments. I like:
- Touch map while in motion to stop. - Play button becomes Pause while in motion. (already in game! thanks for the correction Slayernz)

Play button does become pause while in motion, so at least half your request is fulfilled . Pause becomes play when you stop motion would be valuable tho

Added ST #1574 to investigate this.
It can be really hard to change the ST touch surface with all the crazy options we ended up supporting.
I'll see what I can do.
