I no longer have a clue what you mean by 'high memory devices only'. When I bought my new Samsung Galaxy phone those many years ago, it definitely was one. Now I don't think it is. Can you be more precise in what you mean in the settings screen?

Without this option, CK will request additional memory be allocated for each screen.
If you turn the option on, CK will not request additional memory to be allocated.
With this option on, the game will skip 50-100ms of CPU time in memory allocation per screen.
However, it also means that CK is trusting the Android OS to supply sufficient memory without being asked.
It is hard to be precise because this behavior in CK means different things in different Android OS.

alas. I understand.
Ok, can you explain what happens if you turn it on, and that was a bad idea? I stop getting graphics rendered as the game runs out of memory? Or ...
I have checked this, but would like to know what sort of problems I could run into, so when I do, if I do, I can just uncheck it.

If the game runs out of memory you will get FC or missing backgrounds / portraits.
Turning it on will make transitions between screens faster in both shops and combat.

Thank you.
You might want to add in your settings screen an entry -- turn this off if characters stop being rendered or you experience force closes -- it means that you don't have enough free memory.

It's a silly option. Maybe we should just remove it.

Is this the same thing in Star Traders options; "Enable Agressive Memory"? I've got 32 gig on my Kindle, I'm all for ST Elite taking all it wants.
Is there a maximum amount of memory the application will use if allowed to?
Unrelated to thread; I was wondering why my username doesn't appear anymore on the users online in last twenty four hours? I used too appear as "John Robinson" now nothing. Thanks

With newer phones and devices coming out with lots more memory, how about reversing the setting? by default, you get the aggressive memory utilization, but you have an option something like: [ ] Minimize memory usage (Select if you are having FCs or missing images due to low memory)
