Would it be possible to introduce the facility to copy a knight/save game so I create a backup, before making a major decision, which I can revert to after realising it was the wrong decision?

That's actually a conscious design aspect of the game. Being able to save and revert takes away 99% of the risk of the game, resulting in a substantial unbalancing. Even if the save games were done at the time you went to sleep or in ST, went to a palace, it would mean you would be able to avoid the permadeath aspect of the game, and would be able to revert bad decisions. This would allow you to take higher risk gambles, knowing there is little/no downside.

I see arguments on both sides. In CK I would say you would implement a rule that if you died, in any saved game, on Brutal, it would delete all the saved states too Perma-death could be preserved. I'm not sure if it is a feature people would like or not. Possible to add this in CK, not possible in ST. Different game engines.

Rather than having to start a new knight every time you realised you had messed up. I do like Cory's idea.

What you want for exploring and for playing 'for serious' is different.
It would be really nice to have a knight and make a deep save, then have each buy different armour, or weapons, and then run them each for a while seeing what performs better. The nice thing about CK is that you cannot just buy the thing that costs more, and assume that it is better for you. You cannot even look at the stats and decide that sometimes -- which frustrates the hell out of players who are used to a simpler experience.
That gun does great damage, but with an accuracy of 2, you will never hit anything with it. Buy something that is less lethal when it connects but has an accuracy such that you will hit things. Or --- that gun only has an power of 3, but who cares, it's got a speed of 4 so you will pretty much always have multiple shots connecting ...
I've been learning these things buy hiring twin runners and raising them with identical stats (when comparing gear) and giving them identical gear (when comparing stat allocation) but having a save and reload from such and such a place would in many ways be better, as in more entertaining. I'd make it a Custom/Explorer option.
And then we have to worry about people who fill their cd cards with savefiles they do not know how to delete. I suppose we could have a max of 10 saveslots or something ....

Perhaps it would be possible to do it only on the two easiest difficulties and leave the other difficulties the same. One frustrating thing I have encountered at those difficulties is dieing, then waking up on the north or east sides of the map. Without a taxi contact, I usually get killed again trying to get to gangland.

save slots would make it more viable, that's for sure.

If people want to cheat, they will find ways, I wouldn't worry about enabling them. It is their loss, but it would be nice to be able to see where different decisions could lead. The mars OP in mnb could go two ways and with a lot of development could lead to very different story lines.
Here is my vote for hard backups and why...
I had 3 characters, 1 with over 2k exp, another mnb and a female 2. I got a text, while playing the female 2, when I went back in, it pulled up the mnb character. I have never seen her again. Yesterday while playing my old one, I got a call, my phone froze. When I booted back up, all I had was 2 copies of the new mnb. After.force closing and opening many times out of desperation, my old charter suddenly came up... In slot 2 where my new one should have been. It would be really nice if there were an easy way to back the games up so I won't have to worry about that happening again...
