I think it might also be the formfactor of the device. For my two phones (HTC Desire HD and Galaxy S4), I crave the portrait experience. For the Nexus 7 tablet, I'm okay with landscape. Maybe its the extra real estate - maybe it's the fact the tablet is too big to comfortably hold with one hand ... ?

I am just answering for Star Traders. I'd be interested in what people think about the other games (if they'd still want to play landscape or portrait?)

I prefer landscape myself. It's more like a computer or TV screen. I relate to it better.

If TA had a Portrait mode, I think I would actually buy into that. It's hard to visualize it though because I've only played it in Landscape mode. I still prefer being able to jump into games without having to turn my phone on its side

I guess that I am used to turning my phone on its side. The keyboard is much easier to use that way.

My wife does that to type with ... then again, for the longest time on her android phone, she used the T9 input method (you know, the ole phone keypad). She was a reluctant changer of phones and hasn't played a single game yet

LOL, the phone I had before my Pantech was a Razor. I hated texting with that. It took me forever to reply to a text (and that was maybe five words).

I play on a 10" Tablet. I started playing Landscape mode but have switched to Portrait mode. In Portrait mode, my screen is about the same width as most phone in Landscape put I don't have to scroll down nearly as much.

Oh oh ... another reason for portrait over landscape . .. you have to turn the phone sideways when you are playing a game in landscape, which is a pain when suddenly you get a phonecall and have to flip it around again.
AND ... landscape games make it obvious you are playing games during really important meetings!

A snap poll shows 97% of TB gamers play during lecture or work hours ... the other 3% are in denial, or have lost track of any measurement of time so don't know if they are meant to be somewhere else.

I don't play at work. I leave my tablet at home so I can't be tempted. And I am not in denial. I really do leave my tablet at home!

Yes, the horror of turning your phone 90 degrees. This is why real gamers use tablets and landscape.
