I just got to Rep 154 with my original faction, but for some reason I can't get the Hero of the Stars Award. Could it be because my Rep is higher with two other factions?
Also, Cory, you really need to look into the shortest-path algorithm--you probably don't see what it's doing because you don't have the map centered on the ship, but it keeps adding an unnecessary extra square.

MTKnife -- I am aware of the deficiencies in the shortest path algorithm. It is on the list. the Hero of the Stars Award requires: Turn less than 5199 Turn greater than 400 Reputation Greater than 150

I got the Century Award instead. I wish I'd realized I had to go a little quicker (I guess I missed it by a few weeks), especially now that I can't go back and fix it...Sigh.

Just so I don't get disappointed again, does that time limit apply to any other awards?

MTKnife -- well lets talk about this. Maybe I should just remove all the time limits? Turn 5199 is the "end of the storyline" that we are working on -- the main character is 122 years old at that point ... his chances of being a hero have passed. However, that does not necessarily mean (now reconsidering this) that it is required for the Awards that would mark his or her assent into hero-ship. Thoughts?

The design document states:
"Award time limits serve to encourage replay, reinforce the story arc's in-game time-scale and ensure that awards are completed during the most balanced section of the game (the first 5200 turns.)"

Poo, and I've been sitting here trying to earn more awards--in fact, I've been working hard to get to Reaper II so that I could unlock the Escape Shuttle, and now it looks like I have to start over again....(Due to the problem with killing ships at high levels, I got to the point where I was having a lot of them escape after 200 turns or so of combat, meaning I didn't reach the award, and also that I kept losing money as factions took away ranks I'd already earned, to punish me for failure.) Having them continue after 100 years would give you a reason to play on. I understand the age thing, but who knows what advances in medicine will bring in the far future? You could also require/encourage retirement at some point, as was done in Pirates! (as I recall, age started to hurt your skills at some point). What do other people think?
