When I purchase upgrade X, I become ineligible for upgrades Y and Z. I would like it if the game told me which upgrades I would no longer be able to purchase. Right now I only find these things out when I try to buy something and cannot.
If you want to buy something and cannot, the game should also tell you exactly what upgrade it is that you have that makes things impossible.
It is reasonable that hull upgrades are one direction only -- if you buy this you cannot have that, and you cannot take it out later but this is much less the case for the sail upgrades. You should get the option to replace one set of sails with a different set that comes with different benefits.
