Repairing sails was typically something done at sea, not in port. So it feels strange to have to go to port to get one's sails repaired. What would be more natural is to buy replacement canvas -- that was indeed done in port.

Thanks, we addd #AOP-1730 last week to have a "repair locker" upgrade on a ship that would allow you to take replacement canvas out to sea.

I think this is a bad idea -- because historically every ship could repair its own sails at sea. It's an ability that comes with having a ship. Until you run out of canvas, of course. Then you have to head to port and restock (well, ideally you would have restocked before ever running out). It is the entire idea of needing to come to port to repair sails that is historically jarring, and the only thing that will make it not jar is to not have 'sail repairs' as a thing that you can buy in port. 'Replacement canvas' would make better reading. And then, of course, you can make a locker that allows you to store more canvas than usual ... |

i agree, when i go on a long voyage, i wish i could repair sails at sea. i would rather have this proactive system over the reactive system currently employed

No, it is a great idea.
#1730 was added to address the issue of using Canvas to repair the sails.
A few requirements -- you must not currently be in a severe storm. You must have Canvas stocks available in the Ship's hold. Ect.
The Ship's Engineer will be able to provide a bonus and efficiency units when consuming Canvas.
There will be a proactive option for the Captain to undertake which diverts some Crew from normal duties to Canvas repair.
You will be able to make these repairs at sea.
You can already make proactive repairs while in a protected cove. You can cut Timber and consume Canvas to repair Hull, Mast and Sails.
The on-ship proactive element is still coming and will be added under #1730
As you request, I will also add a note that with #1730 so also should come an adjustment of the Dock's labeling of the new sails.
