in games like uncharted waters, you could invest in a small port and theoretically it would grow over time. it could be nice to invest your supplies to upgrade a town instead of making profit. i think Towns would have to stay with their current build or spec... making a fishing village into a wealthy pop would just be too game breaking, but investing in farms to increase output of goods seems viable, and makes you feel your trade route is personal
