Through some pretty lucky/aggressive shortage/surplus trading, I've got a level 4 captain on Demanding with $1.2M credits. The only problem is that it came at the expense of having -1,673 faction with the Steel Song Clan, and that made me curious: is there any way to recover from this quickly?
The only things that came to mind were gaining 1,673 faction with other factions while they are allied with SSC, or taking sides with them in a Solar War (and losing 1,673 faction with their enemies). I guess I should have thought of this before becoming a legendary criminal.

-1,673 is going to be very hard to undo, but that is the nature of ST RPG.

WOW ... level 4 AND -1673RP. Are you Cadar?!? I had a -600 score that I turned into a positive score, but it takes significantly longer (read aaaaaages) to go up than go down. If you find SSC and a friendly faction trade allied, then you could trade Artifacts/Weaps/Electronics with the trade partner, but you don't get as much RP with SSC as you do with the trade partner. Sometimes I've found even selling 70 odd weapons only nets me about 10 RP. I wasn't paying very close attention, so I could be seeing things that aren't really the case though. Too much vudka during my trades ...

Nope - started as De Valtos but ended up gaining more faction with Rychart. As for how I did it... Surplus Weapons + Shortage Weapons + Trade Embargo (it helped that the shortage and surplus were pretty nearby). Level 4, $1.2M credits, a Rychart Infiltrator ship, and my faction (from top to bottom) is 76/3/-1673/40/7/5. The game got boring pretty fast at this point...

Don't wanna refund, but this situation has given me another idea for an award: The I'm really sorry award: - Purchase a Trade Cert from a faction that you previously had more than -500 RP with The I'm really really bloody sorry award: - Purchase a Trade Cert from a faction that you previously had more than -1000 RP with

Otherwise you can just tank a rep with no real consequences. Personally, I'd keep things as they are. I had negative 2.5K with Cadar at one point (I shot first and hardest, take that Cadar scum!) but then decided that they actually had pretty shiny ships and wanted in with their military so had to do some major booty kissing to get back in their favour. The way I done this was to find a nice high level explorable planet close to a very high level cache planet and then explore for Artifacts, Weapons and Electronics. Cache these until you get a note saying that a faction you have a Trade Permit for has a Trade Alliance with Cadar. Once you get that, head to your Cache, take as much as you can (a nice big hauler helps here) and sell, sell, sell! Didn't take too long to get out of my massive negative rep.

The award doesn't have to give you much - maybe a "discounted trade permit from that faction". Note that in both the "I'm really Sorry" award and the "I'm really really bloody sorry" award, the difficulty should be somewhat appropriate too. You can't expect to be rewarded on Normal or Basic. I'm thinking Crazy would be reasonable ...

Don't worry Cory - I'm not even playing the full version, and I wouldn't ask for a refund anyway for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that, if gamers could get refunds whenever they got bored of a game, the whole industry would go broke (since every game gets boring eventually) and then there'd be no more games! Just passing along my 2 cents. And I'm definitely not a master - I just happened to find a get rich quick scheme

I think this is a great idea. As I understand it, it is intended as an Award (i.e a reward for doing something really hard) not as an Unlock (i.e. not as an assist to help you do something more easily).

High level awards should unlock paint jobs, titles, and other bragging rights. Personally, I like the idea of a captain fixed award that gets you the first round for free in faction spice halls.
"Kill 100 aliens and for a space year, you drink free in all Javat pubs (with purchase of one regular size spice cake or luxury entree). "
The best way to get out of a rep hole like that is certainly hoping that the Songers make a trade alliance with somebody and then you just pour artifacts into their exchanges. Of course, you'd better hope that the other faction isn't embargoed by a third faction.

I wonder if, like really old computer games, if you get a negative enough RP score with a certain faction, the negatives suddenly become the max positives. Actually, in lots of older games, it was the other way around, where you got more than, say, $65535, and all of a sudden, it reverted to -$65535 and you became bankrupt. OldAlchy, I'll race you to see who can get to the bottom of the proverbial RP well first

I use a Long. If you reach -2^63 the game will crash.
That is, if you have -9,223,372,036,854,775,808 reputation with a Faction, ST RPG will crash.
Maximum Money is $2,147,483,648 after which you will not be able to earn more. That is the maximum account value a human can have in the Central Database.

So is that when individuals become corporations I dunno if (a), I could do enough bad stuff to Steel Song to get them to hate me thaaaat badly (although I think the UI would get really messy if I got into the -millions Darn it ... now I have an aspirational target to achieve ... I'm going to have to just camp out at SS worlds and have lively discussions with them for a few decades.
