Just a thought and probably something that you're all ready considering / working on.
But it would be nice to have different artwork for the ports. I'm not saying for every single port, as that would be a mammoth task.
How about a different look for each of the factions? So you'd know that you've docked in say a Ruesland held port or a Cadari Republic?
Then maybe divide that down into Agricultural, Population, etc... Followed by wealth level. So that at a glance you'd know that you'd Docked at a Ruesland, Fishing Village that's Poor.

ST actually has different art files for every planet when your viewing it from the outside, unlike AoP where the view of the island from the outside looks the same. But AoP is a little bigger so it would be much more work. Especially considdering there's a plan to make it bigger! <insert imaginary "EEK!" simley here>

And it may make the most sense to add additional city types and backgrounds as we go along, to help differentiate each unique 'sea' from the last release.

And it may make the most sense to add additional city types and backgrounds as we go along, to help differentiate each unique 'sea' from the last release. Just make sure to focus on one issue at a time. If you try to add everything and fix every bug and make a bunch of improvements at once, while trying to simultaneously update star traders, cyber knights, Templar assault and heroes of steel, you'll end up with a giant sea of bugs (and not the insect bugs). By the way, once steel comes out, how are you gonna manage five games at once? Will you become a full time developer or hire outside help or maybe upgrades for each game will just be less frequent? Or does fallen know how to work on code as well? I mean, I just think that making weekly updates for five games at once while simultaneously working on secret projects is gonna be too much for one part-time developer (without being tremendously overworked and sleep deprived). I mean, it was hard enough with 3 games right?

@starfixer - there are two of us, and I think we pick the option "sleep less" It has always been our policy to do many things at a time and to make continuous improvement across all of our games. As a KickStarter game with its own funding and a longer alpha / beta period, Heroes of Steel should arrive with a very high level of completed design, stability and polish.
