I'm still trying to understand what's what from what what I've gathered so far from reading the forums and scouring the internet. Please correct me if there are any mistakes.
Hull - the "shell" of the ship
Mast - "allows access to sail points and determines rate of sail changes" - ST equivalent to Agility? Better chance to escape/maneuver during combat?
Sail - ST equivalent to Speed; turn efficiency; less rolls/chances for encounter
Cannons - ST equivalent to guns Medium/Short Range Attack
Long Gun - ST equivalent to missiles Long Range Attack
Running - sailing with the wind
Tacking - sailing against the wind
Keel = the "backbone" of the ship
Port = left side of ship
Starboard = right side of ship
Stern/Aft = rear side of ship
Bow/Fore = front side of ship
Prow = the very front of the ship. Think of the movie "Titanic", where DiCaprio's character shouts "I'm the King of the World!"
I should probably ask these next questions in another post, but I'm going to be lazy and ask them anyway. First of all, is keel counted as part of the hull (in-game) or is it counted as a separate value? If it's separate, is the keel considered as the "armor" (assuming correlation to ST), or is something else entirely?
As far as I can figure, assuming I've read things correctly (which is probably improbable, since I'm tired and about to go to bed), the keel (in real life) should be equivalent to the hull (in ST) and the hull (in real life) should be equivalent to armor (in ST), right? Is this how it's set-up in AoP, or am I just confusing the hell out of everything for everyone?

As a starting point, I'd suggest avoiding a "ST equivalent of X" assumption

Besides the "ST equivalent of X" assumptions, could you (or anyone else) help me out with the Hull/Keel/Armor question?

Keel is kept separately from Hull.
The Armor code was deleted and Keel replaced it.

The rumours about what Windward and Leeward are do not help those who do not already know. Try: Leeward: downwind. The side sheltered from the wind or towards which the wind is blowing. Windward: upwind. The side where the wind is blowing from. Also commonly called the 'weather side' as in 'weather gauge'. Weather Gauge: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_gauge
