This is something I've thought of before but I don't think I've ever posted it. Basically the idea is to give obligatory contracts to Military Officers, or possibly to anybody with military rank. The contracts would "spawn" something like faction conflict and you would get a message saying something like "New contract received from Military Command." Then in your contracts section you would find a contract that you have to complete or lose rep/rank. Perhaps they would give additional rep boost or something. The purpose of this would be that a military person is someone who is under orders of superiors and can't just choose what they want to do.
I think this would add some very interesting dimensions to the game and really set the Military Officer apart from the other classes. Perhaps they would need some more bonuses to offset the challenge of being given random contracts.
If it were based on having military rank it would be very interesting because you could simultaneously be receiving orders from factions, even conflicting factions. You would have to be very careful about buying rank and I think it would be nearly impossible to have rank with every single faction like you can now, which has always been a bit of an odd concept.
Perhaps this idea can't really be implemented in ST or would be better in ST2 or AoP, but I think it would be pretty interesting.

I Like this idea, a rank is a privilege but also a duty... it could make more sense

Interesting. Prehaps also you'd need to complete a certain obligatory contract in order to get a promotion, in addition to just having to pay money (as if you have to prove your loyalty or pass a test of something).
Only for the high ranks though. Rank 1 and 2 officers are mostly bounties and pirates that get the rank just for the benifits, and the factions don't mind because the captains have done things for them and give them money for promotions. Rank 18 and 19 though, factions don't want to give those to just anyone!

Worst of all, it'll be my Templar squad that has to do the pick-up.
