Hey folks!
The Exo-planetary crawler....I've been flying around planet to planet for 8 years in-game now looking for it. Everywhere I dock, check the starport, and its never available.
On a previous pilot, I found it once on the home planet for the De Valtos Syndicate, but have never been able to find it again.

Just checking, you have completed the Award to unlock the Exo Planetary Crawler already, right?

The starport development rumor makes all upgrades available. look for that.

I've had a similar issue but it finally appeared on Challenging with a star dock rumor.
The strange thing is that on the lower levels it didn't appear even with the rumor.
Although I started playing challenging after an update, so that might be it.

There was an issue in the early 3.x release where that rumor only enabled all the OLD upgrades. I fixed it as a result of a forum post -- the link to that thread, however, i have lost.

Corey, just for clarifacation, do you have the near exact text to look for to find the upgrades? I keep hunting around for escape pods, but I think I keep missing the rumor.

havocme: This may help: Going to an Urban Zone with a high Spice Hall Rating (for Rumors heard in the Spice Hall) or Palace Security Rating (for Rumors heard in the Palace) will get you "better" rumors. Better means getting Rumors earlier, from farther away (↑ range), about higher rated planets, and with high "secrecy" values. And there are two Rumors that are similar, but different: Star Dock Expansion: more (but not all) Ship Upgrades available Starcraft Innovations: ALL Ship Upgrades available For both, Ship Upgrades that must be unlocked will be availible, but your Captain won't be able to have them installed unless you've claimed the required Award. (This is draft text from the work-in-progress updated Player's Guide. Please correct all errors!)

Ash, very nice, thanks.  Also, do I "use up" rumors if I listen to them on one planet, will it dry up other planets? |

actions in the spice hall (getting rumors) has no impact on the game's generator or distributor of rumors.
You can look, not look or any combination. The rumor system will run on in the background. You can change rumors now by delivering things and doing trade -- so some ways you can change rumors, but not by listening to them.

So I can keep on with always hitting the $100 rumor button on every port? I always check for rumors when I land.

hit that $100 button as much as you want. the better the rating the farther the hall can see. there are 5 halls on the map that can see everything. find them for best rumors.
based on rating and location =0

havocme: intimidation can yield more "hits" vs. "tips" in the rumor mill, but only when using "Next Rumor". captain nemo: The search for all upgrades works the same across all difficulties -- Normal included.
