Hello, I just started playing ST today and I am completely lost on how to acquire additional guns and torpedoes. The only way I know how so far is by looting it from other ships but if I cannot loot from them and after I spend all my guns and torpedoes then I get stuck with no weapons at all to attack other ships. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Love this game so far. Are there any suggestions for pirate class? and is it wise to attack ships early game?

To repair your guns and reload torps you need to get access to the military side of the star dock.
To do this you need to buy a promotion from a faction. Once you are a level 1 officer in that faction you'll have access to the military star dock on all worlds of that faction.

Or visit the Independent planet. You will always have access to the military stardock (except for rumor about closing stardock).
You can also buy upgrades that require military rank on Independent planet without any rank at all.
Bear in mind that the more reputation and rank you gain with facion - the lower the prices on that faction planets are - for doctor, exchange, upgrades and repairs/guns/torpedos.
And since you can't have any rep or rank with Independents - the prices won't change, meanwhile on faction planets they can get much more expensive (for negative or neutral rep) or much more cheaper (for high rep/rank).
I think that economy rating of the planet also has impact on the prices.
