Please don't laugh at me but i tried to play TA for the first time last night and i did the tutorial and all my guys are standing in that little room on the left but nothing is happening and i have no idea how to get down into the hold or over load the airlock system. Ive read and read here and the help files to no avail. I'm guessing it has something to do with the special button that lights up now and then but can i get a hint?
ok you can laugh a little. : P

Don't worry, I'm not laughing, and besides, you couldn't hear it anyway so why worry about it?
Edit: kinda vital, the game is turnbased, everything is waiting for you to decide what to do in your (team's) turn.
On the left you have your team of 4 templars. Each has two bars, green for health/hitpoints and blue/purple for action points (AP). When you select a templar, you will see a yellow square around him. Around him will be colored squares showing the move options. Light green is forward (costs 1 AP per square), two yellow squares to the side are to turning to that side (1 AP). Finally you can move backwards (without turning around) at a cost of 2 AP.
You should press on the Captain's portrait to select him, he'll be in front. Then when you see the green squares, click the one you want him to move to. You can move each of the templars like this, until they're all out of action points. Then you press the "Turn" button and the aliens will get their turn to move. The next turn will start and your templars will have full action points again.
When you finally do meet the aliens, you can press the square they're on to see if you can attack. If they're in range of your selected templar a red bullseye will appear, or a sword icon for melee attacks. The switch button at the bottom lets you switch between gun and sword/fist. Press again to attack (costs 1 AP, so save some)

PhordPh250 - Hey there! First off, don't worry too much about TA. It's a difficult game to begin with so it can have a bit of a learning curve. As Cyrus pointed out, TA is turn based and requires you to input your turn then end it. Then the enemy team will go. After they finish, your turn again. So on and so on until someone bites the dust or you complete your mission. Play through the tutorial (which you are trying to do right now anyway) and it'll teach you the basics. The briefings for each tutorial mission do a very good job of explaining everything, but if you have other questions please feel free to post them here. We're all nice, and we'll do our best to help you out.

PhordPh250 - please think about enhancements that we could make that would make the game more accessible as you play through! Thanks!

1st of all thank you all for your kind and useful responses. I figured out I needed to proceed towards the exit point and stood on the lightning bolts and completed the first mission! Onwards!
PS its quite possible two of my men walked backwards the whole way... opps :-)

I've been tempted to do that before on stages with never ending waves of back attacking aliens. Makes me wish I had Kyle Blackthorne on rear guard duty.

I am having trouble determining which way my "man" will turn when i click a orange turn cube. Is there a way to definitively tell which one will make him turn left or right? i have been killed a couple of times by turning the wrong way then out of AP. Again, thanks everyone for your help! I survived level 2 of the tutorial!!

Ive had that problem. I try to move one guy, only to activate another guy and move him. Sometimes I lose a third or so of my AP that way

PhordPh250 - if you successfully touch the square on his right side, he will always rotate right. Left, left. Do you think you're issue is perhaps with accidentally touching nearby square and getting an unexpected result? If so, try zooming in more -- the squares become larger and much easier to hit dead-on. Hope that helps!

I have an open suggestion to put little arrows inside the tiles

PhordPh250, also be aware that leaving 2 AP (the bottom purple ones) will let you use those AP reactively during the enemies' turn. You generally want that because xenos can close with your squad really fast. As fallen pointed out, if you click on the left side of your templar he'll turn left, right = right. If you click the dark green square your templar will walk backwards (at the cost of 2AP) and the light green square moves you forward.

fallen I think I was getting confused about front and back and determining which was right and left. If I go really slow and turn my phone around so they are "facing" me it works like you say every time! roflmao I'll get use to it. Thanks!! Cory Trese Yeah! That would help OR don't sell this game to spatial challenged people!! But you guys have lots of more important things to do I am sure. er um could you turn the heros of steel guys some other way or I'll end up impaled on something for sure!!

johndramey Thanks! You're right. I need to watch my AP. I'm leaving myself "defenseless" too so they are running up to me and walloping me a good one. Sigh so many Trese Brothers games ... so little time!

Don't worry about losing a few times PhordPh250, all of us go through it. I've been playing TB games forever and I'm still pretty rubbish at them. The TB make the games for the joy of it and we play the games for the joy of it. Each of the apps are little labors of love, and it really shows. As for other general tips, you'll want to use the XP you gain from your completed missions to boost up your Templars' stats. You should be going for AP first. AP has a maximum of 6, and is made by adding your Tactics and Quickness stats together, dividing them by two, and then adding three. The formula is this; (Quickness + tactics)/2+3. For a nice safe build you should pump Quickness, because it'll help you get AP as well as giving you ranged attack bonuses. After getting your 6 AP you'll want to up your Ranged attack to around 10, so push your xp into Ranged. Ranged attack is a straight combo of quickness and ranged. Once your ranged attack is at 10 you'll have some leeway in your build and can experiment a little bit. Another small tip, if you get the honor for one and want to upgrade your squads firing power, purchasing a Plasma Rifle for 500 honor is a cheap and effective way of boosting your attack a lot during the set-up phase for your squad. Any other questions or advice, please post them here! We're happy to help
