I'd LOVE an upgrade (in the Armaments section) that converted your weapons to disruptor technology. That is, it's designed to knock out systems and/or people with only minimal damage to the physical ship.
In the case for ST, it increases the chance of taking out engines (or crew), and decreases the chance that the weapons hit will impact the sails, armor or hull.
Disruptor Upgrade +5 Guns Upgrades the current weapons system to fire specialized EMP rounds. This technology destroys engines and life support systems, while only causing small amounts of damage to the targets hull.

Very cool idea, one that I would welcome. I wonder if the game architecture would allow this. (not too too optimistic)

Sounds cool to me as well. Could provide a bonus for gun vs board or gun at zero range as well.

@starfixer, I don't know if you want to fire disruptors while you are at boarding range because it will affect all systems including your own boarding shuttles and gear. If you had an EVA battle suit on and got whacked by a stray disruptor effect, you will probably have a hard time surviving

If you had an EVA battle suit on and got whacked by a stray disruptor effect, you will probably have a hard time surviving Firing with disrupters are like firing with normal guns, except disrupters do a better job hitting crew and engines, which is what would help more for repelling boarders or helping for board for damage rolls.
