It's funny how these Trese Brothers games infect you! This time last week I was buried into a massive game of Cyberknights...cue an update for AoP and look! I'm absorbed into that! Here's me thinking I'll just have a quick look into what the update brings and before you know it, DAYS have passed
Anyway, before I get into why I've popped onto the forum for, I'm wondering if this is just 'one of those things' and you have to work with it, or could there (or should there) be some balancing tweaks applied to the game mechanics?
As you will see, I've made quite a reputation with the Cadari since day 1, most of my supplied commissions from the local Cadari governors have been against the Kaihmer....so I was more than surprised to see that an Alliance has been formed!!!! Now what do I do to keep earning Silver! Do I just wait it out, as any movement towards the Kaihmer will surely effect my rep with the Cadari, so it's now looking like I'm going to have to drop back and do some work for the lesser factions that I've still got rep with.
I'm wondering if there is a way I could 'influence' a break-up of this Alliance somehow? Hmmmm.....
Onto other general things I've noticed, been thinking about....
I know the Wind mechanic is being worked on, and I was just thinking will it remain fixed by sea, or will we see it changing as we sail around (in a turn based sense) Say we were sailing a total of 20 coordinates, but at a random point between the start and our end destination, the wind could change a few clicks in either direction? Or is the plan to have it only change when we either leave one sea to enter another, the sea we enter would have a new wind direction, and when we return to the sea we were last in, it too has a new direction and so on. I suppose you could even go as far as to have this occur each and everytime you enter and leave a port?
As for manual sailing, any chance we could get a location marker (a bit like in Cyberknights) so when you manually select a part of the game map, you can see where you've 'clicked' ...it doesn't have to be a square icon like CK, could be something more in keeping with the AoP world, like an anchor or a skull or something?
I'm sure others have mentioned this, I know I have on Twitter, the Market....
Will we see some sort of 'Headings' so you know what is on your ship and what is in the Market? (I know we ALL know what numbers mean) I just think it would look better and you have to consider new players. Likewise the Buy and Sell prices, even if it's quite obvious which one is what
Last thing for now...
Ships and upgrades.
Here's my current ship - a Heavy Galleon, the Sea Witch II
Unlike my starter ship, adding extra cannons, sails, mast or keel upgrades (I'll come onto Keel later) don't appear to be worth it as you can see for an none upgrade vessel, it far outstrips my upgraded starter ship....
So what I was thinking, due to the cost to add the same amount of cannons, sails etc... to my Heavy Galleon, since for example it starts with 24 guns, I don't see the benefit say to add another 2-4 cannons, granted the starter ship this was a massive addtion - it doubled your firepower, but on a massive ship I don't think the price you pay is reflected in what you ultimately get (same goes for the sails and mast upgrades)
This brings me onto Hull and more importantly the Keel...
Why do we not have any screen that shows us what our ship's Keel is? I've had to repair it a few times, and have seen upgrades for Keel, but I can't find a stat for it? So my question is, which is the important figure? Hull or Keel? Is Hull classed as your ship's Health points? Where does Keel come into it?
One good addition to the game was the ability to swap out upgrades if you found a better one, but perhaps we need to go a bit further on this? The ability to 'stack' our upgrades - this way it would BECOME worthwhile on a larger ship to add say a stage 1 upgrade, then a stage 2 and so on. There could be penalties added to balance out the constant upgrades, for instance the more cannons you add reduces your cargo space, the more cargo space you add the slower your ship becomes (or the need to add more Sail and Mast upgrades just to get you back to where you were?)
Well thats my Silver's worth of my current observations of AoP at where we are with the game, I'm sure there's loads of other stuff planned that I haven't even thought about....
Regards (or should that be YAAR!)
