Ah, I just finally got everything unlocked and you have to go add more awards! Oh well, these don't sound too difficult, I'll have to look at them later.

I may sound like a doomsayer, but this "in app purchase" update seems bad. Up to date these apps have been great because there were no in app purchases and now there are. In app purchases are the bane of most mobile games, and ruin most good ideas before they start

I'm banging my head on the RRIII one all over again!

In app purchases are the bane of most mobile games, and ruin most good ideas before they start I would not be so skeptical. In app purchases can be done right. I am confident these guys know what they are doing. Cory said that that the basic idea behind the achievements and unlocks are not going to change - so the game remains the same and do not require you to buy anything. It would be so foolish to break trust built around the community in years. And these guys are smart . Hell, I may be buying some of the IAP just to throw some money on these guys for such a commitment! Anyway, you can see what people think about it here: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/5053/app-purchases-upgrades

@camel, I agree with Fenikso in the fact the Trese Brothers are all about integrity. They wouldn't go after quick-buck activities to the detriment of long-term enjoyment. They are gamers first, and play their own games.
You can see the first IAP that Cory is suggesting will be something that unlocks all of the awards. This is something that people have been requesting for years now - but without IAP, it's been impossible to deliver. I'm excited about the fact that casual gamers will be able to get something that lets them enjoy the game in their own way by paying a small amount, and the rest of us nutcases will continue to be able to enjoy the game doing what we are doing now. Patience is free ... impatience costs.

@camel -- Thank you very much for keeping the conversation on Google Play positive. That is critical to the process.
I do, however, disagree with you when you say our games "have been great because there were no in app purchases."
I believe that Star Traders RPG is a great game because it is fun to play and has a lot of variation between games.
I have spent thousands of hours on the 250 updates it has received over three years and I am proud of the game.
What I would ask, from each of you: give us a chance to show you we can do this right.

Besides, seemingly the IAP are optional shortcuts and in no way are you forced to buy them to complete any challenges as in other games. To me, the fun is in completing the awards so I will continue the hardcore route. I do like new awards and new upgrades though, and it re-ignites my interest in the game.

If you buy the IAP, which keeps us in business, you won't loose any of the ability to see what Awards and Unlocks you have received. You'll just be to able to buy and use items that would be previously locked. The best of both?
