This idea came to me reading Cyrus post about different mission types. The idea grew until I decided I should just start a new thread.
Anyways, the idea is a new unit type called the Technician. They would be lightly armed and armored, but would be able to do things like closing spawn points/closing doors. This would allow for scenarios where you have to escort a technician to a particular panel to hack into the system etc. Those missions that require a technician might give you one for free if you don't have one, just in case you don't have any honor to buy one, otherwise you could keep one on your squad and level him up a bit, which would be better than starting with a totally green Tech.
The Tech could also have other support abilities like being able to carry a reloading unit, or increase your scan distance or a repair kit or even plant a bomb/booby trap or a scanner that would provide a visibile zone where it is left. These could be things that you would buy and therefore your Tech could be equipped with different things for different levels. It would be interesting to have the choice to have one less warrior, but increase the effectiveness of existing ones.

That's a great suggestion! I like the idea that you can trade a warrior for support options and it would fit very well with many of the missions in damaged ships and ancient decaying structures.
