Ramming is a perfectly good activity, but it should be treated like any other weapon-type damage. It shouldn't blow through all of your armor AND hull, especially if you have a hull of 20 or more. Maybe Ramming would be like 3d6 worth of damage. Hey, if it's good enough to determine your base attributes in D&D, it should be good for some Thulun thug from doing the old Kamikaze on you.
Oh ... and your pilot/stealth ability should help you avoid any attempt. I mean to say, if it's a small ship ramming you, you might not even notice it glancing off your hull. If it's a large ship ramming, you'll have plenty of notice because let's face it, those carriers don't exactly turn on a dime!

Yesterday I had a rather promising impossible-level game end abruptly thanks to the all-powerful ram. At this stage I'd be happy to see it removed from the game altogether. "Oh Great and Glorious Headbands! Those hatcrappers are ramming us!" "First Mate, bring us to ramming speed. Brace your epaulets and prepare the battle mustaches for boarding action!" Moustaches waxed and ready. Collar starch on standby. First Mate, space-suit up! This is going to be legen-waitforit-DARY!

I'd like to see the ships stuck together after a successful ram. It's a Reaver move.
You ought to get some kind of flag for ramming X number of times. Other Captains should note that you're a freaking nutcase that rams his ship into other ships. Bonus to Intimidation?
Also, how about awards for taking down other ships in certain combat styles? Ram 50 ships? Disable 100 ships with only torpedoes? Board 50 undamaged ships?

oldalchemist: Seems impossible to board 50 undamaged ships unless you are a dedicated Military Officer. But I think that there might be a ramming upgrade that'll allow you to "sticky" to the opponents (must be coupled with a certain boarding upgrade to work, otherwise too imbalanced). What do you guys think about that?

I wouldn't expect every captain to be able to do every award, but you've got to give it up for the Thulun nutballs who have a twitch and decide that honor demands that they power down weapons, damn the torpedoes, and take the ship with feathered battle pikes and laser cravats.
Yeah. It starts here. The Thulun wear cravats. I said it.
There's a big, fat schism between the ones that wear them straight forward like a Boy Scout neckerchief and the ones that go off to the side like Freddy from Scooby Doo.
Also, put those awards on Crazy+ level. It gives Captains something to work towards when other awards are done.
I like the idea of a Barbed Battle Prow. It would be a great upgrade on a little ship that you're flying just to capture big ships.
