I've been wondering for some time now about how to determine ship is best for which class. Having been absent from the forum here for some time, i'm well out of practice.
With so many ship types to choose from, it gets confusing when you compare two ships where on is quick and fast, the other just slow or medium, but there is no discernible diference between the two.
So how do you really determine what ship is best for which class?

Another problem I'm running into is ship pricing at the dock. There has been plenty of times where I will see two similar ships available, with maybe only a point or two difference in a couple areas, but then the value will be astronomically different.
What am I not seeing or understanding? Between this and my first post, I know there is a big chunk of the game I haven't figured out yet.

Looking at the Sails to Hull ratio tells me how efficient a ship is (Fast). A ship with hull 40 and sails 40 is going to require a lot more WF in order to get from A to B than a ship with hull of 20 and sails 40. Looking at the Engine to Hull ratio tells me how agile the ship is, especially in combat. A ship with 40 hull and 40 engines is going to be less dominant in combat than a ship with 20 hull and 40 engines. My gun-bunny, "go where the rumor is" playing style, requires me to have both of these ratios high, especially the SHr, where it must be over 2:1 before I even look at the ship. After SHr, and EHr, I look at cargo hold size because you gotta carry good amounts of stuff in order to make rumors really work for you Don't really care as much about the rest of the numbers. Crew size ... meh, actually the fewer the better (so long as there is enough crew to run the engines and man the guns). Guns and Torps ... you can kill with 5 guns on a ship. It just takes longer. With Steel Song, watching them suffer a bit more isn't such a negative.

I wasn't aware the hull size affected wf consumption. Now, would this matter as much for military/zealot, where they usually aren't far from the front lines? I can see it mattering most for merchants/smugglers/explorers.
Armor doesn't factor in as well does it?
