I'm trying playing an explorer now, and one of your skills and ship upgrades increase your fishing. How the heck do you fish though?

I'm just guessing here, but I think it comes to play when you run out of rations, which would mean better resistance to morale loss(?)

underableedingsun - which upgrade? There is no fishing skill if you look at your Captain ... ?

Its one of the galley upgrades, I don't have it on my new ship, I have the Large Galley so it must be the other one that increases morale and food preparation. It increases harvesting and fishing both I believe (I had that upgrade on my other ship last night when I wrote this). When I happen upon it in a port I'll let you know what its called.
Captain Skill that has fishing, word for word -
Gathering: The GATHERING skill is used by the Captain when he gathers supplies on land and when fishing the ocean.

Fishing will be in an upcoming release, as a option to 'Gather' outside of shores.
Right now, you can only fish from shore.

So how do I fish from shore? Can I land in a random shore?

it - look for beaches or sandy islands. Once you land on those, you can choose Gather and find resources like provisions and lumber.
