2 of them. one subtracts torps and adds guns, one vice versa.

Ideas for a couple more 1) some type of water reclamation/purification system. reduces cargo, but greatly improves Water/Fuel economy, and/or potentially negate/reduce mutiny chance for low water/fuel. would work well for the large-crew pirate/alien-hunters
2) 'Automated systems' - perhaps reduces crew but negates 'too few crew' penalty for not enough for guns/engine/sails. In 'penalty' perhaps a slight increase for all repairs? (ie, any time repairing/adding new components (sails/engines/torps/guns, costs more to fully integrate with systems) Would allow for those large-cargo runners to be even more fuel efficient.

1). We have the W-F Tank that decreases random encounters a little, and essentially frees up 25 cargo.
We also have the W-F Scoop that reduces usage during orbital operations.
Finally, ther is the W-F Recycling System that reduces deep space fuel consumption, and crew deaths when on low fuel.
Seems to me we have everything covered, unless I misunderstand what you are meaning. If so, then I apologize.
2). Not a bad idea. But then it bears asking: with less crew you are more susceptible to pirates and Indie spacers, so what do you do? Include systems that increase overall fuel efficiency but reduce possible defenses against boarding or losing engines and sails, or do you install automated defense system to better protect your cargo and life?
That's the only way I see of balancing that out. If you look through them, most ship upgrades have some form of string attached; I.e. most cargo and crew upgrades increase encounter rates to counterbalance the more cargo to sell and men to protect it.
These are just my views, of course. I'm all for more ship customization options, but I also like having to really consider the choices.
