So as I was saying in my the thread about encounters within encounters, I found myself surrounded and severely outnumbered by lots of nasty Ratkin. I didn't mind so much because I was playing Normal difficulty. However, when presented with the option to recover, it really only had "Retry Turn". The party was in a no-win situation, and retrying the turn was futile. There is no way to recover from the situation, so I am stuck in a horrible loop. This effectively renders "non permanent death" irrelevant because no doubt others will find situations that are un-winnable with only the last Turn repeated.
The best option for non-permanent death is that you get restored back to the last town/campfire that you were at. Otherwise, you're pretty much screwed.

Oh cool. I'll write off the current party and create a new one. A bit sad that I had to let these guys go down to frickin ratkin though ... grrrr

slayernz - you could just keep trying Retreat with all AP? The Restore Point system will fix this issue, but it is currently disabled while we work out some kinks.

More details ... The Verminkin Shaman was the only remaining foe of Wave 1. It seemed he conjured up ALL of the additional foe as none of the party moved at all. They immediately attacked and severely injured the party. At the end of the turn, The Outlander had 218/288hp The Wizard had 1/104hp The Thief had 63/155hp The Cleric had 33/163hp The egress points were all unavailable. Spike pits to north/northwest (even if I disarmed them, they still cost 2AP per move. 6 Squares north ends up in water - no exit point there. Unfortunately, for me this is the classic definition of "screwed".

I'm sorry to say but that is one really bad position to be stuck in, don't really see a way to recover from that either

I'm trying a couple of different options to see if there is any chance of recovery. Using one turn to just beef up my health to max (yes I used potion thingies) AND shift my characters into a more defensible position got me an extra turn! Normal shouldn't be this nailbiting <grin>

update to the unwinnable situation - err ... I won it.
I got the warrior up front, full of health, and moved the others back (north). The cleric focused on keeping the outlander alive, and the wizard and thief worked systematically to take out the ratkin one by one. Wizard used Firebolt 3. If the creature was still alive after the first strike, the thief used Aimed Shot 2 and took out the enemy with one shot. That way the two could dispatch 2 or 3 enemies in one round. The warrior focused on any sword-wielding ratkin and slowly but surely, the party managed to gain the upper hand. Did I have fun doing it? Hmmm, hard to say because I was trying hard not to buy in on the whole "hope" thing.
Did I feel satisfaction when I came out the other end alive? HELL YEAH.
I don't know how anyone would survive that on higher difficulties though - makes me shudder to even think about it. Thanks guys for making even "Normal" difficulty nailbiting <grin>
