Hello,
I bought ST a couple of weeks ago and blazed through the first two difficulties. Love it, struggling with challenging right now but keeping at it.
Playing pirate in the first two difficulties, had to switch to star trader in Challenging.
Well keep up the fun game

Hey neddapirate, welcome to the forum! if you have any questions on the game, or even have some tricks or tips of your own, feel free to post them here. The Pirate class is actually one of the better starting classes, just because you have good pilot and tactic skills right from the outset. A Startrader captain is also great because you're also in a good starting position to succeed. The step up to Challenging is fun - there is nothing more exciting than when death is on the line

I love the Perma death. It just felt like I hit a wall in game speed coming up from the lower classes due to the randomness of the deaths, I killed myself once surrendering thinking I would get pardoned DOH.
I had a few that were them coming after me in orbit over my factions home planet. I just have to say that Thulun is rough and I will be taking them out form now on.
The rest were random decompression deaths.

The rest were random decompression deaths. I've done the same more times than I'd care to admit. The escape shuttle is worth unlocking and if you need cash bad, stick to spice hall missions. You could go for more lucrative missions, but you'll be worse off than before if everything hits the fan (ie bount hunter missions come to mind. Nothing like getting your buns handed back to you by some target in a random merchant ship to teach you the importance of having extra money).

Don't forget you DON'T have to accept every contract handed to you (unless you are going for a particular unlock). There is no penalty for rejecting contracts, and if you want to stick with short haul delivery contracts, that's fine by the other party. They just want someone to do their dirty work for them and will find some other nutcase to do the assassination mission that you just turned down.
