rifle vs auto

I am a sniper and I have decent athletic and I hoped to find a good rifle with good range and power but after checking the item spreadsheet on google docs I am not sure one exists.

I mean the panther has great stats but heavy rounds are expensive and if it ends up taking more than 1 shot to kill it could even be pointless. Right now I am still in the tunnels planning my escape. I am using the blaze IV and most ofcthe time I have 2 equipped so if I run out of ammo I dont have to reload. For a smg they have great range and I get lots of combos and normally kill in 1 turn.( playing on wuss level cause I want to work my way through the levels)

I wont be going elite for another 2 weeks but by then I will prolly have a million ¥ so I decided to plan out my gear ahead of time. Any suggestions on rifles or is my assumption that I should just forget rifles and use smg right?

If your firearms skill is not so good, you want the Mk251 Bounty (elite only) from Back Bay Importers in Old Kenmore (among other places).

When you get more accurate at shooting you want to upgrade to a HunterSight (also elite only) from, (again among others) Mars Surplus in Commonwealth.

You want a Speed 2 weapon for your every day use. 2 shots pretty much takes care of everything in this game, so this will get the job done each attack you have. Heavy ammo costs so much that it is not worth it for your day to day business of killing things -- fine for special occasions, though. I find both of these a lot more effective than a SMG.

The thing to remember is that with AP of 4, you really want to work on getting your AP up there as a Sniper. (Well, everybody needs to do this, but the consequences for Snipers who work on other skills too much is a very quick expensive funeral, no matter how cool your gear is.)

If you start a new Sniper, you may be interested in the (also available non-elite) Strumwhelger M2.

It is about 2x the starter sniper rifle. You can get it at Fairmont Self-Defense in the I-93 barrens.

The Speed 2 is what makes it so much nicer than the starter rifle, though the 1 more bullet is also useful. And with AP 3, you can use it to kill things before your AP is such that a 4AP weapon makes sense to use. Then race on over to Old Kenmore and buy the mk251 bounty.

You should just start with the Hunter Sight then. There is one for sale at Black Row, are you using it or is that elite only?

And you are building your character in a very odd way. It's better to have an AP of 11 than firearms of 11. But in 2 weeks your AP should be great as well, so ...

^-- What she said. Though if you have some decent runners on your team, snipers won't need to move around too much anyway. On my Face CK, I hired a Sniper runner who pretty much chills in one place or two (depending on how many enemies are left) and wrecks enemies further back while my Face and other crew take care of anyone closer. Having a runner or two with SMGs cover the Sniper works pretty well when the Sniper isn't moving too much-- the runners can expend their AP chasing nearby enemies. Sow the asphalt with lead and shower it with blood. Preferably theirs, not yours.
