Nemo, the free part of the game ended for me just before I entered Oskahold the first time. I had to buy Episode 1 to enter Oskahold the first time... and do that other cool stuff that happens after you enter Oskahold.

slayernz fallen2. If there is any change to potion numbers I hope it's SP. ... i have to give a big +1 regarding the SP potions. Throughout the game i've used maybe 5 HP potions, while sometimes burning through more than 20 SP potions in a single combat (because someone apparently doesn't know when to turn off the Ratkin faucet!). When the party has SP, they also have HP (via the Cleric), making SP potions much, much more useful than HP potions.

You are referring to the Long Walk feature (not bug) which makes you crawl back to camp to refresh. It is related to my issues with Vince, since his party rarely gets two combats in between camping, while with Karj two combats are fairly trivial. With Vince in the party, buying SP potions is a requirement, not an "oops this is a real big fight".

Consider HP potion to be a way to protect your SP and use them more aggressively. In the heat of combat, use a spare AP from Vraes to heal himself ans ave Kyera 3 AP for Holy Retribution or Smite.
I think HP potions are easy to ignore, but they can really smooth out a strategy and save you lots of AP through some hard fights.

Except there are no HP potions as reliable as Kyera's heal. I use the same tactic you do fallen, which is cool for healing a stray wound on the non-tanks or topping off Vraes in a big fight. As a possible alternate to Tears, well all it takes is a couple or three bad potion rolls and you just lost AP budgeted elsewhere. Given, with a nuking Kyera, might be worth it to lose swings or arrows.
On the economic side, cheap SP potions translate into reliable healing, but attempting to replace that healing with high end HP potions with large random factors on HP healed is way more expensive. Using your spare AP example, a 40-something gold SP gives at least one 134+ heal. How much for the equivalent HP potion(s)?
The SP pots required can be found, but the equivalent HP pots must be bought for the same level of healing. If we compare the same power pots found (20-50 IIRC) then it is 134+ vs. 60 + (1-30)*3 or 63-150 (105 average).
One solution would be to reduce the random range of the HP pots, say to 30-50 or 35-45, which would make them more reliable as an alternate, but not as good as Tears.

algesan is right in terms of the variability of HP potions making them less useful than Kyera's Tears. Playing on Hard, I saved most of my HP potions for the series of fights at the end of Episode 1, Act 1 that ultimately leads to the shaman boss. The HP potions were very useful then. Vraes would be standing still use 6 AP on blows and the 7th AP on an HP potion to keep him in a safe range--I didn't wait for his HP to get low. During some turns he'd use multiple potions and/or potions plus Kyera's tears...

Yea, so far on Nightmare I sold all my health potions before I decided to go after the Shaman. Those potions aren't as reliable as SP are.
I'd thought what I'd do, was pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes- Catcher in the Rye/G.I.T.S SAC

A balance issue is healing vs. HP potion effects. You don't want pots to become a cheap option. Right now HP pots vs. Kyera AP use are superior, except they cost too much or are too rare (drop only) to be viable. Even for Spirit pots the price turned both my Vince builds into high maintenance cost parties after mid A1E1.
