I always play as a merchant as I find it fun and engaging to manage my way around the map as an economic power. Thing is, even with all fun goodies in the game, there should be more things to tailor to a merchant's experience. First, establish your own trading company. What I mean by this is when you own a company, you can gain a profit over time (or lose silver depending on the circumstances). I don't know if you guys can make this possible, but it would be great if you guys could. Second, having a fleet. Not just for battle purposes, but to transport (and maybe one ship to protect the fleet) more resources and gain a larger profit. Although, I would settle for an npc hired mercenary to protect me. Lastly, when looking at the prices of an item in the status, please also add the quantity available at that port, I keep being fooled when trying to buy things like spices.

great set of suggestions.
I'll work on adding them -- the one about merchant companies is in progress and is the reason why you cannot find any Trading Company castles at this time.
Thanks for posting -- I've lot this in our tracker and I'll write back when bugs are closed.

Electric - thanks for the feedback! We are working on a couple of capabilities that will help you have more power as a merchant. One big one will be having a fleet in Dry Dock, so you can collect and use multiple types of ships. Second, we have plans for allowing captains to attack or invest in cities. So, while you may not be able to start your own company (the game is not built for company management), there will be more direct ways that you can use your merchant riches to affect the world! I love the idea of hiring a mercenary - sort of a generic ships officer that could be hired for military protection would be really cool. Added #AOP-2237.

Wow, that's great, especially the investing part. Too bad I can't own a company though, I was looking forward to one. But everything else seems to make up for it.
