I don't usually destroy the ship's hull, but its' engines. But it is true that on 50 engines 30 torps would be better, or 40 (Cadar flagship has 40). When I am thinking about it, I have never destroiyed a ship purely with torpedoes. Once I lowered its' hull to 1, but the engines fell first.

Torpedoes are less likely to destroy the hull than gunnery, but more likely than boarding.

I wonder why ouldn't you reccomend torps against aliensaliens.. Is it because the boarders have ridic stealth? Mostly because I've never seen torps effective against ridiculously high level enemies and that's committing everything to being good at torping. With an alien that is 3 times your level he'll only have to gain range on you once and there will be nothing you can do to stop him from coming the rest of the way and eating your face off. You're welcome to give it a try though.

Guns are another chapter, with high tactics skill I destroy the hulls before I manage to hit engines

As a free player, I will have probably no other choice than to look at flagships, because these are the only ones that have decent hull and large crew. I wonder though, which one do you think is the most suitable for it? Cadar (160 crew, 40 hull, 95 hold) - I think my choice Javat (122 crew, 40 hull, 120 hold) - but 40 guns and 50 engines De Valtos (124 crew, 30 hull, 124 hold) - but incredibly expensive! I wonder only between these three, because Thulun and Steel has low crew and Rychart too many engines. Also I wonder, how much strength should I stack up before going over level 4? As strength doesn't increase level, I thought about stacking up as much as possible. I am noit worried about survival as long as I can handle fuel, so no need to be reserved.

Aren't flagships Elite only? If not, that's a bug!

Ships of power unlock Prides Ships of honor unlock Honors Ships of Honor II unlock Templars But flagships are ships on their own. The only things why a free player would need to pursue a rank.

Ok, I am now proven that a torping alien hunter is impossible. Higher stealth means it is very unlikely to find one, while lower stealth will mean that you won't keep range.

Did you take a boatload of artifacts, look for Alien attack rumors and trolled in those areas? Or patrolled dead planets with the same cargo?
