The program already handles promotions with each faction, but what if each faction also had medals they gave out. These might have a random component to them, but also require certain contracts or events to happen. Some factions might reward assassinations, other naval actions like blockades, and others recovery of intelligence. Number of appropriate mission types performed for the faction might factor into the odds of receiving a medal. (For example, a faction might have a chance of giving a medal after the 5th bounty mission, with chances going up slightly on each additional bounty collected.)

... and then if you got the right medals (or even harder, combination of medals for multiple factions) you would qualify for special ships, upgrades and hidden bases!
I LOVE this idea. =)
I call them "Awards" tho.
Do you think Medals is a better term?

I actually was going to title this "Medals and Awards". I have no problem with it being called awards.

Not sure, but aren't they referred to as decorations by the army? Not that it makes a difference.

Maybe I am late sounding off on this issue, but I LOVE this idea. It would make it more fun to play the game up to higher levels. Maybe ranks for whatever class you are playing; eg. Military Officer: Recruit, Private, Corporal, Gunny, etc. or Pirate: Maggot, Swab, Mate, Swashbuckler. So you could be a pirate that has leveled to Pirate King and has earned the "Black Pearl Medallion" for raiding cargo from 200 ships, or the "Golden Assassin Cross" for killing 500 captains. My mind is rife with possible ranks and medals that different classes could earn. What do you think, Cory???
