During the course of a game, planets could change factions based on campaign circumstances:
1) Plot Points Diplomacy - A prince/governor could change loyalties to another faction for some gain, possibly as part of a war, or more likely setting one off. (This could cause assassination attempts, blockades, or other repercussions that actually could create more contracts like bodyguard duty, hunting down assassins before they can strike, blockade running to smuggle goods to the planet, or even taking the fight at a blockade to break it.) Replacing a governor - Instead of a governor switching alliances, he is killed, forced into hiding, imprisoned, or exiled. A new governor loyal to another faction is put in place. This could spark missions like diplomacy (when the diplaced faction tries to get back their planet) or things like rescuing the old governor from prison, tracking down exiled governors to get them back in their seat of power, etc.
2) The player might be the instigator of things. Killing the governor, blockading a planet until it surrenders, smuggling bribes to the governor to get them to convert... Same scenarios as above, except instead of the switch being an "event" to start plots, it is the culmination of plots.
